The rapid evolution of emerging technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) coupled with the intensification of the use of the virtual in the Covid-19 context, are inevitably accompanied by the sophistication of cybercriminal strategies in our cyberspace. Moreover, the National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies (ANTIC) recently assessed the financial losses due to cybercrime in the order of 12.2 billion FCFA to the Cameroonian economy in 2021. This figure doubles the losses recorded in 2019.
This alarming situation is of particular concern to the CyComAI group (Cybersecurity with Computational and Artificial Intelligence Group). This group, made up of national and diaspora experts in intelligent cybersecurity, despite the difficulties linked to the pandemic and instability, carried out a survey of the Cameroonian population. The objective is explaining victimization and to make recommendations to decision-makers and digital managers to ensure the health of cyberspace.
The study, the first in this kind, was carried out during the year 2021 in the 10 regions of Cameroon. Rich and unique, it is full of a lot of usable information of which we only deliver a few significant results. Results which can be provided on demand, show that digital economy is really threatened!
